Sri Gopala Krishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha ®
Puppetry in India has lived through centuries, making it a traditional art form that finds its references in the history of mankind in general. The diversity of Indian culture too has contributed to the different forms of puppetry that have survived in the various parts of the country, maintaining its rich heritage, thus being a means of entertainment too. Although the onset of new means of entertainment might have posed a threat with respect to the existence of such traditional art forms, yet the constant efforts of a few to preserve it has proved to be a significant contribution that needs mention and applause.

Who Am I
The relationship between Yakshagana and puppet shows dated back to the 18th century, When Bombeyatada sidddaiha wrote “karibantana Kalaga”. It was with this work the puppet shows apparently attained the Yakshagana style. The brain behind the troupe is Sri. K.V. Ramesh a B.Sc., Graduate from Calicut University, who is a good artist. Ramesh is blessed with a unique grasping power and bright Intellect. He along with his brothers and the guidance of his grandfather designed the puppets and formed a seven member’s troupe titled as Sri Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha. Sri. K.V. Ramesh didn't have any training in puppetry, puppet making or carpentry. He has always been fascinated by puppet shows. Interest in painting and art and encouragement from his grandfather, the late Sri. Kallakatta Lakshminarayanayya, were contributing factors. Except for the beast and dance of Yakshagana taught to him by Sri. Kambara Ramachandra Rao. He picked up the whole art all by himself. Today it is all within the family Sri. K.V Ramesh prepare the puppets for the show. Sri. K.V Ramesh used materials like wood paint and clothes from the market, by trial and error alone are we learning the art. The present set of puppets is the third one since we started.
